About Us

J.R. Wilcox Community School is located on the corner of Atlas Avenue and Ava Road, south of the Allen Expressway. Established in 1920, the school is over 100 years old. The school serves approximately 375 students, grades K-8; there are 2 Diagnostic Kindergarten Intensive Support Programs and an intermediate Extended French Program.

This year the school has a strong focus on Belonging for all members of the community, and a commitment to equity, anti-oppression and Indigenous Education through all that we do.

A nutritious snack program is available for all students. The Learning Enrichment Foundation (LEF) runs a daycare in the school, allowing for seamless programming between the Kindergarten and daycare. Childcare is also provided by the LEF.

The school day begins with the entry bell at 8:58 am with instruction beginning promptly at 9:00 am. Lunch is between 11:45 am – 12:38 pm, with afternoon instruction beginning promptly at 12:40 pm. Dismissal is at 3:25 pm.
